Refund Policy

At BussTickets, we understand that plans change. This Refund Policy explains when and how you can cancel a booking and what percentage of your payment will be returned. Please read this carefully before booking.

1. Refund Eligibility

Refund amounts depend on the type of route and how far in advance you cancel relative to the scheduled departure time.

A scheduled route runs on a fixed timetable (e.g. a daily 6 am departure). An unscheduled route departs when conditions are met, with no fixed timetable (e.g. when the bus fills up). Your confirmation message will indicate which type applies to your journey.

2. Rescheduling Option

As an alternative to a cash refund, you may choose to reschedule your booking to another available departure on the same or a different route. Rescheduling carries no additional fee, regardless of when you request it (subject to seat availability). Contact us with your booking reference to arrange this.

3. Physical Tickets

Once you have received and presented a physical ticket at boarding, the booking is considered fulfilled. Cancellations at this stage must be handled directly with the bus operator and are subject to the operator's own policy. BussTickets cannot process refunds for journeys where a physical ticket has already been issued.

4. Operator-Initiated Cancellations

If your bus is cancelled or significantly delayed (more than 2 hours) due to circumstances within the operator's control, you are entitled to a full 100% refund regardless of how close to departure the cancellation occurs. You may also opt for a free transfer to the next available departure instead.

5. How to Request a Refund

To cancel a booking and request a refund:

  • Contact us via phone or email before your departure time.
  • Provide your booking reference number and the phone number used at checkout.
  • State clearly whether you would prefer a cash refund or a free reschedule.
  • We will confirm the applicable refund amount based on the time of your request.

Requests made after departure are not eligible for a refund.

6. Refund Processing

Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method:

  • Mobile Money (MTN, Telecel, AirtelTigo) — typically processed within 1 – 3 business days.
  • Debit/credit card — typically processed within 3 – 7 business days, depending on your bank.

Refunds are processed via Paystack. BussTickets does not charge a processing fee on refunds; however, any original Paystack transaction fees are non-refundable.
